First, make sure you have setup your modem correctly. See http://www.mobiledatanow.com/support/supported-sms-modems
Then you'll need to start the MDN GSM Modem Service, see How do I start and stop services?
Send an SMS to the GSM Modem and open the Event Log and you should see the logging of your queries.
