How do I get my SMS modem working?

After you have plugged your SMS modem to the serial port of your computer, insert the SIM card and make sure the modem is operational.

To check the communication with the modem is working, open up HyperTerminal from Start>>>All Programs>>>Accessories>>> Communications>>>HyperTerminal

Enter a name for the connection, click ok.

Click cancel on the Connect To screen

Type the letters AT, the modem should respond OK

If you run in to difficulties connecting, try reducing the modem speed in the control panel>>>Phone and Modem Options to around 9600 baud. A fast connection is not needed for sending SMS.
